Mark Cuban of Dallas Mavericks -- Conference realignment could benefit NBA - ESPN Dallas

Chicago/Detroit and San Antonio/Dallas really shouldn't switch conference imo.

Well, he's not NBA God yet, thank goodness.

If it isn't already geographically accurate (it appears that it is), the 15 westernmost teams should be in the Western Conference, and the 15 easternmost teams should be in the Eastern Conference.

Mr. Cuban, sorry that the Eastern Conference that you aren't in sucks most of the time. The best teams will end up on top nonetheless, as all playoff series are 7 games. Two years ago when the Heat played the sub .500 Bucks in the first round, I don't think anybody was that worried about a Bucks upset.

Could you imagine a Spurs-Thunder Finals? That'd get the coasts interested!
(Especially considering OKC in Cuban's West would play an Eastern team further west than itself).

I suspect Cubans comments were more made to point out the woeful imbalance than to suggest an actual reform since we know that's not going to happen.

In short, he's b*tching and moaning under the guise of offering a solution....but in fairness he has a point seeing as how the Mavs came within a game of not even making the playoffs last year.

The problem is this: Name the worst run franchises in the NBA the last 10 years or so.

I'm not going to start a fight today but suffice to say at least 5 of the bottom 7 are in the east.

I know it would never happen as the time zone jumps would wreck havoc but wouldn't it be nice if the top 16 teams made the playoffs instead of top 8 from each conference?

I think it would make for more interesting matchups. The playoffs would last forever though because of the travel days required.
