Charlotte has won the bidding rights to host the 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend, the league announced Tuesday.

The news was first reported by Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer on Monday.

The 66th annual NBA All-Star Game will take place Sunday, Feb. 19 at the 20,000-seat Time Warner Cable Arena, the league's third-newest arena and home of the recently re-branded Hornets. The annual Rising Stars Challenge will be Friday, Feb. 17 and All-Star Saturday Night will include the Slam Dunk Contest and Three-Point Shootout on Feb. 18.

I was just in Charlotte. Good luck finding something fun to do downtown. Wasn't impressed.

They're trying to get the Charlotte fans pumped up. Going back to the Hornets still wasn't enough momentum to get them to the postseason in the Eastern Conference.

Trust me on this, there will be an ample amount of entertainment that weekend. The problem with Uptown Charlotte is parking is far too limited, but the light rails will be packed, so that will alleviate that somewhat. There are many dives, bars, restaurants, parks, and venues in the area. NoDa will be hot, South End too, those are peripheral neighborhoods of Uptown. Charlotte will not disappoint, trust me...

Yes, Charlotte has a small rail system. Maybe by 2017, it will be even better.

As a Hornets fan I'm pretty excited about this and already am planning on going. I think the city will do a good job showcasing itself.
