Do they choose to run the table to get the record, or rest their players?
They got to go for it, no question. The record is more important than the Championship (oddly). Multiple teams have won championships, but to be the SOLE team with the best regular season record. A record that may stand for a long, long time. Now that is it right there. But hey, that's just my take on it.

So if by chance they get the record then fall short in the 2nd or 3rd round would that not be up there as one of the greatest failures in nba history?

No way... we are talking back to back title opportunity... that's dynasty consideration... that's way more important than a single season record.

It would be karma for Dallas to get the 8th seed and upset GSW in the first round.

That may be, I'd say that's a fair statement. However, it's a gambling proposition. There would be coasting, except I'd move the coasting from the end of the regular season to the start of the playoffs. Rather than try to sweep the low seeds in first round, you take your cat naps then. You could argue that the Mavs/Jazz will bring it hard, but even then you may be able to coast a bit.

I would like to see them do it just to shut the haters up.

I respectfully disagree. Its all about chips and rings. They'll look pretty foolish going all in the regular season getting a record and then getting bounced. Look at the way the Spurs and Cavs act so cavalier through the whole regular season- they don't care about the 82. The Spurs and the Cavs will have something to say about Dubs repeat.
As you know I watch 90% of the Cavs games there have been a few that it is obvious the team is tuned out and I've learned to be okay with that as long it doesn't appear come playoff time. Its not just finding an identity with that team- its being interested for a game in January against the Nets.
Its the mental grind that will takes its toll in May and June on a team that plays each of the 82 likes it a playoff game.

I do worry about this for GSW. Even by their own admission, they've played every game all out - even against sub .500 teams in close games. Worst thing that can happen is getting caught up in a low seed series that you can't sweep easily. Avoid those drawn out grinds.
The Spurs need rest because they're older, that's a fact not a knock. I think the Warrior players are getting caught up in the media hype and trying too hard rather than let their game come to them.
