So far we have...

-Bradley Beal getting $130 million over 5 years.
-Ryan Anderson (who?) getting $80 million over 4 years.
-Mike Conley getting $153 million over 5 years.
-Dwight Howard getting $70 million over 3 years.
-Joakim Noah getting $72 million over 4 years.
-Rumored Harrison Barnes will be offered $95 million over 4 years.

How in the world Harrison Barnes get nearly $100 million after stinking up in a huge way in the NBA Finals is beyond me.

This makes me wonder: how much would Michael Jordan, coming off his first championship run in 1991 (age 28), be worth on the open market today?

Probably whatever Lebron is going to make when his contract is completed. If there's a $30+m/yr man in the league today, it's LBJ. I'd say that would be Jordan's worth also.

Considering mike Conley is getting 30.6 per year, I'd say more.

Something people don't understand is that the NBA has capped what the superstars can make. This cap has actually "saved" the league. The Salary of LeBron is set by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NBA Owners and NBA Player's association. And Michael Jordan Salary was also fixed by the CBA. Teams like the Grizzlies will most likely never win the NBA title, but their players will get paid, because their product is generating 6 billions in revenues.
Guys like Duncan have been getting paid peanuts, so that their teams can pay others for them to win.
Players true financial rewards comes as money off the court. That's where their true difference between stars and others comes from. Not on NBA salaries ...
The NBA is a "communist" system, which profits most of its members.

And this is why no one can say the new salaries, particularly that contract, aren't detrimental to the game. Since Conley is making 30 the real superstars are gonna expect 40+.

Only worth what someone is willing to pay.

The league has the money, the CBA says players get 50%. I don't have a problem with it.

Everyone is comparing current players to past value/salaries. Forget old market values.
Lebron is gonna be the highest paid player in the league, if he gets 40, then that's what someone deemed him worth. Jordan went from making 3.85 in 1995-96 to making 30.14 million in 96-97. It's how the CBA works.

Guys like Lebron, Jordan, Magic, they would be worth close to the entire teams cap in a free market.

If Mike Conley can get a $30M/Yr contract, Michael Jordan would be worth $120M per year. Don't just look at a player's contributions on the court, which Jordan is obviously a better player on the court, but think about the money generated in merchandise, attendance boost on road games. Remember how the Grizzlies could not sell out their arena, but when The Bulls were in town people showed up? Same thing in Milwaukee, Minnesotta, etc.. Think about jersey sales, team merchandise, etc... Michael Jordan's last contracts were in fact for $30M a year... That was 20 years ago...

Worth or what they can actually make? Lebron is worth more than he can actually make as would Jordan be, but they'd be capped based on a number of factors. If you assume there are no limiting factors Jordan and Lebron would both be worth 100M per year or more.

Just for crap convert the millions these guys are getting into a dollar per hour wage. So Conley would be $30 an hour. I don't know any of you guys but I'm not even getting $30 an hour my poor self where I work. I can't imagine them paying anyone where I work $30 an hour. No we're not a work place that a tv station will broadcast our workdays. As crappy of a day I have I won't see a million bucks before I retire. We're all like this guy ain worth it. None of those guys are worth it. Go out there and make the works better. I buy a t shirt and they get $15 of it and 3 cents kicks back to the store. Go out there and solve something Lebron. Go pass a bill Durant. Donate time money effort to world peace Duncan or Dirk or any overly rich whiny guy who spends most of the year not doing what he gets paid for.
