Shooting from the halfcourt line is something an amateur can do very successfully.
You don't need any professional basketball skills to regularly make a shots from the halfcourt line.
And you often don't need to contend with defense when shooting from that range.
All my life I've seen the physically weak players hang around the 3-point-line and refuse to enter the paint.
It'll be twice as pathetic if halfcourt shooting becomes the norm.....

But the same could've been said 40 years ago. Lo and behold a lot of the skills highly prized back then no longer exist.

Shooting from half court is in no way easy. A few weeks ago I watched Steph Curry give up after missing about 10 in a row from half court. A half court shot would be way too difficult for even the best shooters in the world. 27-30 feet is difficult but doable at a decent percentage.

I wouldn't mind making the 3 pt. line a 2.5 pt. line, so that mediocre shooters would be less inclined to jack up shots from distance. Currently 33% in 3 point shooting is equivalent to 50% in 2 point shooting. With a 2.5 point shot, 40% shooting would be equivalent to 50% 2 pt. shooting, and that would separate the men from the boys, so to speak.

I agree with this. Because of the dominance of 3 point shots, it seems like the way to bring it back would be to give 2.5 points. It would balance it out better. But yea, getting rid of it completely wouldn't be good at all either. Then we're just gonna see lay ups and mid range shots only.

Would be weird to hear ''2.5 points'' though.

The problem I have with a 4 point line is nobody would really do it, and the ones that make it are the ones that get lucky at the end of the game. Imagine being down 3 and winning with a 4 point shot. That wouldn't be fair.
