I really don't like this.

I get the NBA is a business, and they're trying to protect their image but they should not be regulating what players say on their personal social media
Embiid fined $10,000 for saying "F**k Lavar Ball" on a live video.
Just dumb on his part, but dumb on the NBA's part for fining him too

If I went on social media and said something like that about a co-worker I could be fired.

Social Media is NOT personal in a sports entertainment setting.

You go out and publically state to 100k people on twitter stuff like that it reflects on the NBA.

I disagree
You say something about a guy on social media, he's not a coworker, your company MOGHT give a warning, but they're not taking money away or firing you.

NBA players have done a lot worse with no repercussions in the past.

Just seems too nanny state to me

They've fined other players in the past, like Matt Barnes for using the n-word. In this case I can kinda understand it because he's cussing out another player's family member. I imagine a player saying "F Wanda Durant" or "F Dell Curry" would get even more pushback.

People have been fired over social media slips. The NBA is in the image business and what the players post is part of that, whether they like it or not. Now the players can certainly try to change that through collective bargaining but they won't get it. Simply too much money involved. Also, this is a private corporation and nothing to do with a nanny state. They are free to leave the NBA and say what they want, at any time. Take the money, take the rules.

In addition to the association's bylaws, there are civil and criminal laws against defamation, including slander and libel.

Lmao nobody is getting sued for slander or libel for saying F**k LaVar Ball. Maybe look up the definition of defamation, slander and libel.

Is the Instagram account a personal or NBA associated one? At the end of day, everyone is entitled to their 1st amendment right. Unless, the NBA player signed a social media agreement with the NBA then i don't believe the NBA is just in their fine. The issue becomes with SJW and their backlash against the company to get person X fired. This is why i believe everyone should have a politically correct and a troll social media accounts.
