Bulls’ Nikola Mirotic Hospitalized After Practice Altercation With Bobby Portis

Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic has suffered a concussion and maxillary fractures and will likely need surgery after a physical altercation with teammate Bobby Portis in practice Tuesday, the team said.

Mirotic and Portis got in a shoving altercation, which then ended with Portis hitting Mirotic in the face, as Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports first reported. It was a “cheap shot,” according to multiple reports.

Not sure I'd want someone throwing their best cheat shot to be on my team. That's just an irreparable character flaw.

And Bobby Portis being nothing more than a bench guy, has definitely altered the direction of his career. He's Razorback alum and had a fairly good year his rookie campaign with Chicago. I had high hopes for him after that year, but it seems as if there's maybe a lack of work ethic or attitude problems. Scuffles aren't uncommon in practice or locker rooms, but punching someone hard enough to cause a facial fracture is the type of cancer no one is looking for in their locker room. He could have had a decade long career coming off the bench for different teams, but now this could have him end up out of the league. Just a bone headed move by a player looking for and needing more minutes.

Looks like the Bulls just gave Portis an 8 game suspension. Heard it a while ago on Sportscenter.

Nice to see the worst team getting worse.

That's a bit lenient. Not sure I'd want him on the team after something like this. It's one thing to get into an altercation, but to send the guy to the hospital, and give him a concussion?

I’d suspend him the whole season. Once the PA steps in and appeals it to 10 or so games I’d immediately cut him the second that suspension ends. That is completely unacceptable behavior that would not be tolerated if I was running that team. I get locker room fights but to punch someone so hard that they need surgery......he’s got to go right??

Exactly. Altercations happen on every team. This is way over the top though. Kind of like when Arenas brought his gun to the locker room, but worse IMO.

I don't see how he can be trusted if he would do that to someone on his team.
