Last night I watched the Washington Huskies men's basketball team take on the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks. I was expecting the dawgs to get blown out... but instead they kept hanging in there. Coach Hopkins's modified 2-3 zone worked almost to perfection, keeping the Jayhawks from exploding and gradually letting the Huskies pull away. It was a fun game to watch, if a bit slow at times. Nice to see the Huskies have kept or recruited some decent players following the unfortunate departure of Coach Romar. They may even make some noise this year. It's too bad the home games have been so poorly attended. Maybe that'll change now with the Zags coming to town?

Excellent update on my favorite college basketball team, rjshae. Please come back here and provide as many updates as you can to this thread. I never understood why 'Zo was let go - talk about a fantastic basketball coach. I guess the President and the AD wanted ta go another direction. Sounds like they're more than just heading in the right direction now. Excellent!

Relative to their talent level, the team was underperforming under Coach Romar. I suspect some of the alumni had just had enough after several years of not making the tourney, and there was a lot of negative talk going around. It was sad to see him go, but he's ended up down at Arizona as an assistant so at least he's still in the business.

Oh, interesting. Not what I imagined, that the players were underperforming under his Head Coaching. Weird to think of him coaching in Arizona. The U.of Arizona in Tucson?

Not that it matters at this point in the season, but the win catapulted their RPI into the top 50. Signifies the magnitude of the win. Let's see how they handle the Zags on Sunday. It's at home, so I hope they get a raucous crowd there. Yeah, the defense was stifling on the perimeter, leaving the key almost wide open most of the time, with the exception of Dickerson guarding the low post area. Unusual to see a team like Kansas fail to adjust adequately, and the big second half KU run that most of us were likely expecting, never materialized. This, in part, to prudent calling of time-outs by Hopkins to calm the team and reinforce on-court execution. Really great game to watch.

Aye, the Arizona Wildcats. Normally they have a decent ranking, but they dropped out from no. 2 after three losses. Queue the wa-wa-wahs...

Coach Romar and Arizona -- funny how the coach known for recruiting but not having a clue as to how to run plays and coach goes to Arizona who is now....being investigated by the FBI!!! There may be a reason why some of these guys are such super star recruiters and it may not involve anything legal.

My how I'm learning a lot about Coach Romar. Marv Harshman must be turning over in his grave, so he doesn't have ta look. Well, 'Zo's gone now, boys.

Que up the fun! I'm over in Manson on Lake Chelan, but I do have DirecTV. I'd love ta see the Huskies on TV. If they are in the playoffs that'll just happen naturally.

I saw them in New York a couple weeks ago and they got completely blown out by Virginia Tech by like 30 points, the night after they lost to Providence. Good to see them bouncing back a bit.

If they beat Gonzaga tomorrow after defeating Kansas earlier in the week, then they are definitely a team to watch and a far cry from the team that lost to Va Tech and Providence. I don't know about Va Tech, but I know Providence is mediocre this season.
