Pete retired in 1980, when I was 10, and I never got to see him play. But thanks to the magic of youtube, some of his career lives on. Enjoy!

I only got to go to two of Pete's games at Denver's McNichols arena-both times with the Jazz when they were still in New Orleans. I never saw anything like him. His ball handling was so much better than anyone else that somehow I felt he was somewhat bored with basketball. In ESPN's Sport Century one hour bio on Pete, Calvin Murphy of the Houston Rockets said exactly that in a seg.

His dad got him heavily involved with the game clear back was he was maybe 5 or 6 years old. Press, his dad, totaled over 25 years regarding college coaching. Pete's college total regarding scoring goes without saying, averaging over 40 points a game.

Sadly a nasty knee injury put the kibosh on his career, IIRC it was 1980 when that happened. And his game was never the same. Anyone who has had major surgery on your knees 38 years ago would attest to the fact your career was winding down. Quickly.

Basketball essentially boils down to being entertained and in that respect Pistol ranks way up the list along with guys like Iverson. Jason Williams was another player I wanted to watch regardless of stats/winning/losing. And1 flashiness is one thing, but mixing it in at the highest level against some of the best defenders in the world...that’s just cool. Of course, if you can be entertaining while beating everyone at the same time...well that makes you MJ I guess.
