Former NBA player Rasual Butler and his wife singer Leah LaBelle were killed in a car crash

At around 2 a.m., Butler, 38, and LaBelle, 31, were driving in their Range Rover when he when it lost control, hit three parking meters and a retaining wall and landed in the parking lot of a strip mall which contains several businesses, according to CBS Sports. Both occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the reports the car was going at least 90mph.

Butler averaged 7.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, and he played 13 seasons in the NBA for eight teams. He last played during the 2015-16 season with the San Antonio Spurs. He also played for the Hornets, Clippers, Bulls, Raptors, Pacers, and Wizards.

Leah LaBelle was an R&B artist who came in 12th on the third season of "American Idol" in 2003. She was signed to Epic Records in 2011 and released two singles.

This is just a senseless tragedy. 90 mph... ??

RIP. Sad ending.

I often see road-side shrines around where I live on a 45mph road and at times wondered "how?".

The reality is that excessive speeding around obstacles that do not give ground (like trees, walls etc.) create massive, often fatal g-forces.

I feel bad for their family, regardless if they were famous or worked at the local school or quarry etc.
