I guess we could also ask what current stars are faking the “nice guy” persona because of today’s social media environment?

Shaq & Barkley are more interesting personalities than MJ. MJ was more interested in dominating, winning, and then building wealth than partying and having fun like Shaq & Charles. The truth is that everyone is different and have different priorities & skills.

I remember the old Wilt Chamberlain versus Bill Russell rivalry where Bill won the rings and Chamberlain had 20,000 times more fun only winning 2 rings.

But also as a well educated black man I don't think he respects the modern NBA player much. There are many stories of Rappers going up to him at parties and begging for a photo only to have Jordan laugh in their face and even make derogatory insults. You'll probably never see Jordan complain because of the massive financial benefits but I think he's kinda ashamed how his signature sneakers are now a staple in the urban scene.

I think it's wise for him to keep his distance instead of making his true feelings known.
Kind of you to paint a humble picture of Jordan. One thing we all know, he definitely isn't ashamed of the popularity of his shoes, are you kidding me?

Actually MJ is very much still involved in the NBA- he owns the Charlotte Hornets (though he’s a pretty terrible owner).

I love the guy from a basketball standpoint though. He was as clutch as ever and no one has ever had the desire to win as much as him. He was very hard to play for, and with, but if you wanted to win a championship, you wanted to be on his roster.
Can't believe I'm defending a UNC guy, but....

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.932bcec58dd2

He's a businessman. He owns an NBA franchise along with his own brand. That's time consuming. He's not going to be just hanging out on the TNT set shooting the **** with Barkley and Shaq. He's actually got a purpose beyond gabbing mindlessly. Those guys can be funny but what are they really bringing to the sport?

MJ is a far better owner than what the Hornets had previously, although success has been limited. His now exiting GM had a large role in that lately but hopefully they'll be on the right track soon. It's tough to attract talent to a small market like Charlotte as we've all seen with the advent of super teams.

I hated the guy in college and even more in the pros but can't take away the fact he's done a helluva good job for himself and doesn't need to just hang around the sport to feel important anymore. He's all business now and has been for most of his life.

I don't buy the perception that he's an a--hole. Mostly because I think most people in general are pretty terrible as well, so he's not really any different other than he's the most famous Basketball Player of all time. Given the public image of a lot of players today, I'd say he did pretty well in at least that respect.

He also never showed interest or empathy for the families who lost family members killed for those overpriced sneakers that poor, underprivileged kids just had to have.
