Not that I thought the NBA would surpass the NFL as the top sport, but this surprised me.

NBAís all-star game fails to outdraw NFLís

The NFLís Pro Bowl stinks. But as long as it continues to draw an audience (and churn a profit), the NFL will continue to stage it.

It definitely draws an audience, and surely churns a profit. This yearís game, played on a Sunday afternoon, generated a rating of 5.9. Thatís more than 15 percent higher than the rating generated in prime time on Sunday night by the NBA All-Star Game.

Via multiple reports, the basketball game drew a 5.1, despite being broadcast on both TBS and TNT. Of course, the Pro Bowl was simulcast as well, on both ESPN and ABC. And, yes, broadcast networks like ABC typically generate bigger numbers.

I do think it was a better on court product than in year's past.

I think the NBA needs to go back to the East vs West format. I don't like this new "Team Lebron vs Team Stephen" format. It's too cheesy.

I am surprised as well that the NFL outdrew the NBA All-Star game. Granted, having ABC helps, but I am still surprised. When is the last time you watched the Pro Bowl? I havent in years. To be fair, I havent watched of the NBA All-Star game either, but I have watched a little...I checked out on the Pro Bowl eons ago.

I watched (some of - a few minutes) the pro bowl this year. I was not sure what I was seeing, but it certainly wasn't NFL Football. I'm not sure why anyone would have any interest... It seemed like "battle of the Network Stars" on 5 year expired steroids.
