Virginia started to make a mini comeback, and their defense was stifling. But UMBC was able to withstand the backcourt and fullcourt pressure and now they are back up by 17!

Virginia somewhat I guess started to make some shots. But actually it is amazingly their defense that is letting UVA down. They can't stop this paltry 16 seed from penetrating and getting good looks. That UMBC point guard looks to be the size of David Spade!

And ironically, hours apart the tournament jinx strikes both Purdue and Virginia once again. At least Purdue is still playing.
It is unbelievable how these teams like Virginia can conquer Duke, and everyone else in the ACC, and as soon as the tourney starts, a team they'd probably also beat- by 30+ if it was played in November, they look like they should be in the NIT. I know Virginia doesn't have a key player in this case, but analysts always talk about someone's style not being conducive for a deep tournament run. But why really? Same floor dimensions, baskets are still 10 feet high; the opponent isn't any more familiar generally with the arena than the favorite.

I thought I'd live to see it, but not the overall #1 losing by 20! Kansas St vs UMBC for a spot in the Sweet 16. Suffice to say, Warren Buffet will keep his million dollars another year.

579,666 brackets in the ESPN contest believe it or not, had UMBC winning. Either UMBC grads, or people who did it for giggles I'm sure.

I thought UMBC was amazing against the Virginia's stifling defense especially the trap. Almost every time they were able to beat the trap without turning the ball over.

My guess is that for 99.7% of them, it's part of multiple brackets they entered.
