Believe it or not, we (Arizona) beat UMBC 103-78 on 12 Nov. I had never heard of them at that point.

Flat out biggest upset ever. And K-State gets the benefit.
Every bracket busted.

So glad i watched this game. UMBC is only about 15 miles from where I live. I watched the last half of their tournament game against Vermont. When they won, and got a ticket to the big game, I figured they would probably lose, because a 16 never beats a 1 seed.

The only time I watch basketball is the NCAA tournament. I saw history made tonight!

Ralph Sampson says thanks for removing him from the worst loss in UVA history... and likely nationwide.

Virginia wasn't only the #1 seed here, they were considered the overall favorite to win the NCAA championship this year.

UMBC lost by 43 to Albany. Last loss was to Stony Brook a while ago. Remember, Vermont was the best team in the conference most of the season, but UMBC did beat them on VT's home floor in the conference championship game and had probably hit their stride before then. I know its easy to say after the fact, but this team probably should have been a 15 seed. With Hunter's injury and Virginia's notorious issues in the tournament, this was probably the 1-16 pairing some of us should have had our eye on, if any, and not Kansas-Penn. Another upset or two out of this south bracket, and this may be the nuttiest looking region ever. Its inevitable at some point with the landscape of what college basketball has become versus yesteryear.

At least that was just the Maui Tournament in November. I would think the worst UVA loss previously was still with Sampson and the Elite 8 loss by a point to the Cardiac Kids- NC State in 1983.

I don't think any of us will live to see this record broken. A 16 seed beating the OVERALL 1 seed by TWENTY points.

If you have any UVA fans in your close circle.....make sure they aren't near a high ledge.
