Westbrook might be the greatest player in history, who canít be the centerpiece of a winning franchise. For all of his gifts, he has one of the lowest basketball IQs of any superstar. To make matters worse, heís incredibly ball dominant. That is a horrible combination for success.

I have repeatedly been called a hater on this forum for condemning the media for the Westbrook MVP. Basketball's goal is winning. Westbrook will never be the best player on a contender. He was in an ideal scenario as the sidekick to Durant, but could not bring himself to defer to one of the most versatile scorers in history.

It should be you can't win with Westb as your pg. You can't win with Westb chucking all the time either.

If a player attempts over 40 shots in a game, and isn't breaking NBA all-time scoring records (or even if he is!), there's a lot of blame to go around aside from the player going on a chucking spree.

Westbrook is immensely talented on both ends and determined, but so far it's inefficient and detrimental talent and determination. He does deserve a better coaching staff to take advantage of his potential. You can't assume Durant only chose greener pastures because of Westbrook.

No, KD was pretty up-front about the Warriors’ passing/sharing system and locker room culture being what made him choose to go there. The Thunder under their last two coaches have had no real game plan or play-calling, just leaving the players to their own devices, just like Warriors under Mark Jackson. So of course the players themselves attain a certain degree of success due to their talent, but it doesn’t build a champion. OKC let Westbrook touch the ball at every turn last season so he would be their one superstar who stayed long-term, but at the cost of creating a selfish, rudderless culture for the organization.

Anyway, I look forward to plenty of cupcake tweets from now til June.

That's an interesting word to describe Durant. For all of his perfectly valid faults and criticisms, Westbrook has his head in the game, and he wants to compete and win. It shouldn't be too late in his career to turn that into success, instead of playing for coaches with stagnant offense, who rely on raw talent to succeed in the Western Conference. I think Westbrook would pair up better with a star big instead of a star wing.

Next year's already swirling the drain, because Melo's $28M will clog up any roster flexibility the Thunder might have hoped for and Paul George is likely departing--although we've already seen the ceiling for this Thunder squad. The following year will probably be the last one where Westbrook's athleticism is head & shoulders above most of the league. After that, I expect decline. What if WB never leads a team past the 1st round of the playoffs?

The problem is that Westbrook is dumb. He operates with a combination of physical gifts and will. His will to win is second only to Jordan. Heís every bit the sociopath that Kobe was, but has none of the brains.

I heard a sports talk guy today make an interesting point about triple doubles. He said that if you count only triple doubles where the player shot over 50%, LeBron led the league in triple doubles, not Westbrook.

Or second best apparently as Durant found out.
