Duke is projected to have 2 players in the top 10 in tomorrow's draft. Another who I figured would be at least in the first round, Trevon Duval, is projected now in the early 2nd round.

Here's a list of 20 current NBA players who went to Duke, and 51 former NBA players who did. Out of the 20, just three are solidly starting-caliber in the NBA: Kyrie Irving, Jason Tatum, and J.J. Redick.

If you look at the list of former NBA Duke alums, there are quite a few who were busts, or at least close to it. Danny Ferry is maybe the best example. He was the second overall pick in 1989. He did have a 10 year career, but averaged 7 points per game, mostly off the bench. A lot of people said when he was drafted that he was the next Larry Bird.

Duke has consistently produced solid NBA players for 20 years now. Any school producing so many NBAers will have some duds.

They also have some late picks that carved out careers - Duhon (39th pick), Miles Plumlee, Singler (33rd pick), Lance Thomas (undrafted), Josh McRoberts (37th pick), Seth Curry (undrafted), Quinn Cook (undrafted), Carlos Boozer (36th pick).

Outside of Okafor and Shelden Williams I’d say Duke has been relatively bust free over the last 20 or so years.

You also have to give Coach K credit for getting the best results from the roster he’s given. Similar to, say, Urban Meyer and Ohio State football. The prospects may gain a certain amount of hype from their program, but it’s still the executives’ and talent scouts’ jobs to discerne whether that translates to NBA talent.

There was an article 5 years ago by Bleacher Report about Duke's 5 best NBA players:

Duke Basketball: Blue Devils' 5 Best-Ever NBA Products

1. Grant Hill
2. Kyrie Irving
3. Jeff Mullins
4. Christian Laettner
5. Shane Battier

Honorable Mention

Johnny Dawkins
Mike Gminski
Luol Deng
Elton Brand
Carlos Boozer
Bob Verga

Duke's finally getting their first player into the NBA Hall of Fame this year, with Grant Hill, cut them some slack!

When you recruit all of the best high school players who donít go to Kentucky, you should produce serious NBA talent. Right now the best duke alarm in the NBA played 11 games in a Dukie jersey. We need to start discussing the fact that Coach Kelly might be ruining these kids. Grayson Allen is a one and done lottery pick Eddie lot of other D1 schools.

I agree.

If getting interest from Duke, declaring and playing for Duke makes an otherwise 25th pick into a more nationally known 12th pick...did Duke really hurt the player that chose them?

Who did he ruin? Just last year Luke Kennard busted out of no where as a lotto pick.

What mock drafts had Grayson Allen sniffing the lotto out of HS? He was like the 25-35th ranked player in his recruiting class...in other words expected to play 3-4 years of college ball.

And there’s Greyson picked #21...an instant millionaire, national champion and Duke grad. I’d say Duke worked out well for him.

I got to see him play his freshman year, I worked for Duke, but do you think he could of/would of went higher if he left earlier?
