Agreed. It's not fun to watch anymore because you know that no team outside of GS, whatever team Lebron is on, and maybe 1-2 other teams (Rockets, maybe a team like the Celtics) have a shot. Given the length of the season, all other teams are on amateur hour display. When only 2-4 teams have a shot, it takes a lot of the fun out of watching. At least in the NFL, because the playoffs one and done (unlike 7 game series), you can have upsets as long as you make it into the playoffs. I miss the days when teams were more balanced.

I mean if you are a player in the stacked western conference and you want a chance at getting to the finals then going to an eastern team would seem like a good move because Lebron is out of the way.
Once upon a time in a single sport that I can think of, MLB you would see in the national culture that winning the pennant, not the World Series was the goal and the dream. From movies like Damn Yankees, or The Natural and probably more that someone older than me can remember. For almost every other sport along with MLB now, showing off the division and conference titles was something that was done by team owners who could not put up a banner otherwise. And teams with many World Championship banners don't have "Atlantic Division first playoff seed 2018" banners up

About the only exception is schools which brag about their NCAA basketball Final Four appearances, and even then your UCLA's, Kentucky's, and North Carolina's are all about the championship itself and even after a drought of a decades since their last still don't brag about the Final Four except to the one year and out recruits. To quote the 1996 US Women's Olympic Team" member Lisa Leslie for Nike "you don't win the Silver, you lose the Gold"

Now a good player not hunting a teammate for a ring will follow the money or perhaps try to find the most friendly city for his family. A team, Cleveland in this example, in the conference dropping out of playoff contention will mean nothing to him.

There is now an uber-dominant team in each conference: Boston and Golden State.

Houston almost beat Golden State in the conference finals. They should have let the team mostly stand pat. But they let Ariza and Mah Boute, major swing defenders, go, and now they're going after Carmelo!

Why Why Why. You had a good, well-structured squad, and now you break it up. It's almost like Houston doesn't want to win a title.

Boston may not be all that far from Golden State with Kyrie and Hayward coming back. East and West are left pretty similarly situated.
