The top 6 strong teams are still alive as expected for the Quarterfinals.

There is little separating the progressions of this order. Of course we may say China is an overwhelming favorite to beat Japan if they meet but that's not how the progressions or sequence is. If I would rank them from top to bottom:

1 China
2 Philippines
3 Korea
4 Iran
5 Chinese Taipei
6 Japan

With that said, in the quarterfinals, I expect

Chinese Taipei (or let's just call it Taiwan ) to beat Syria
China to beat Indonesia

These games will be closer:

Iran to narrowly beat Japan

Philippines and Korea is a toss-up. The most nail-biting pairing in the Quarterfinals. Korea is the defending champion and they beat their former 3 opponents by 39, 35 and 40 points respectively. Philippines beat its first opponent by 37 before losing to China by 2.

Games are getting very exciting now.

When Philippines and China met in elimination rounds, it was like a preview of a Championship game. Two top teams squaring off early and the gymnasium in Indonesia was filled to the rafters as they know they are receiving an early Christmas gift with this game.

China is sporting 4 NBA-drafted players with 2 of them signed (Zhou Qi of Houston Rockets and Ding Yanyuhang of Dallas Mavericks). Philippines has 1 NBA player in Jordan Clarkson of Cleveland Cavaliers.

I am surprised about 5 Filipino players got suspended after that fight with the Australians.

It's 10 players suspended -- 9 playing and 1 reserve, and 2 coaches (head and assistant head). Towards the end of that game, those 9 players got ejected and only 3 were left to play vs 5 of Australia.

Philippines with players serving their suspensions do not have enough in their team to compete for Asian Games and they backed out initially but decided later to form a new team and re-joined the Asian Games with about 1 month of preparation.

The first quarterfinals is Korea vs Philippines. This will be the most balanced match-up. Oddsmakers slightly favor the defending champion Koreans -120 with Philippines at -109. There is no ATS though I could see it go Philippines +1 as the time gets nearer.

The game is @11 pm tonight EST.

Tomorrow will feature the other 3 games starting at 10 am EST.

Iran is favored -2500 over Japan; Taiwan is favored -10000 over Syria. The China-Indonesia game is not yet chalked.

Last year, the Korea and Philippines met in FIBA Asia Cup. Korea displayed its form of terrific outside shooting, crisp plays on pick and roll and ball movement. A complete team basketball that is the envy of other ball clubs in the world. They dismantled Philippines winning by 32 points.
