I believe it will have to be someone bigger than Kawhi, Steph, or even Lebron (nike) to build a brand as big as MJ in this day and age.

I don't see anyone building a bigger brand that MJ. MJ was a one of a kind player. The way he played, the competition that he faced, the rivalry that he had, those NBA final moments, etc.

He also made the NBA into an international brand and launched Nike Basketball sneakers.

Kobe imitated Jordan too much. He tarnished his legacy with the rape scandal and him snitching on Shaq. He did the right thing in making his # 24. Symbolic maybe of Jordan was 23 and i am the new "Jordan" 24.

Lebron was poised to overthrown Jordan. Nike signed him right off High School with a 90 million contract. Lebron screwed up with taking #23. He was always in the shadows of Jordan. His legacy was somewhat tarnished by having to join 2 all stars to win 2 rings. He legitimized himself by going back to Cleveland and winning 1 championship. The Jordan vs Lebron debate is pointless. Jordan is the GOAT of his generation.

Plus I doubt Leonard has any intention of building a brand as big or even a quarter as big as Jordan.
But it would feel good to build a brand around yourself.
You are just another star at Nike.

The thing I don't get about Kobe's attempted imitation of Jordan, is why did he choose to launch a plethora of bad 3-pointers?
I know he's not on Jordan's level athletically, but he still was the best post-up guard in the NBA, and a very good mid-range game, decent slashing game.
He could definitely average 30ppg (during his prime) without much 3-point shooting.
