This post right here best describes my favorite of the Laker teams from the 80's, as I was a big Laker fan back then.

For a single season, I'd go with the 1983 'fo,fo,fo' 76ers. Overall for the decade, I'd take the Lakers over the Celtics by a small margin.

Something about a gold-rush and being a prospector in the western U.S. and the nugget is commonly referred as a rough gold piece found in crude form.
Just my thought...

First Place: Detroit Pistons (biased here..)
Second Place: LA Lakers
Third Place: Boston Celtics
All three were exciting to watch!

For one season? Well, like a couple of others on here, I'm biased, but being that I once saw a sports mag's ranking of greatest NBA teams ever, not just for a particular decade, and their number-one team of all time was the '85-'86 Celtics, I'll go with that one. They had to be right up there at least. The Big Three, DJ and Ainge at guard, and that team was deeper than even the other two Celtics' championship teams of the '80's. I mean, Bill Walton was the BACKUP center on that team.

Bill Walton was the backup center (and a very good one too) because he couldn't play that many minutes/game, due to his dozens of foot surgeries. He was actually healthy the entire year in 1985-86, which was a big reason why that was the best Celtics team of the 1980's, despite having largely the same cast of key characters most of the decade.

How can this even be a debate? The Lakers won 5 of the 10 titles (80, 82, 85, 87 & 88), the Celtics only won 3 (81, 84 & 86)...last I checked, the scoreboard usually tells the story.
The real debate would be who is the team of the current decade (what do you call it by the way?? the 0's!?)...San Antonio & LA both w/3 championships a piece...obviously if the Lakers win their 4th this season, gotta give it to them, but that's a tough call.
