Yao Ming Might Be Done
As the NBA draft approached, the grim truth about Yao Ming’s(notes) broken left foot hung like an anvil over the Houston Rockets. The fear isn’t that he’s just lost for next season, but longer.
The Rockets and Yao’s reps are frightened over his future, and the concern is the most base of all: Does Yao Ming ever play again?
“The realization has hit them that this is grave,” one NBA general manager said.
Rockets could lose Yao for season, if not longer - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

That is indeed sad news. He is an asset to the NBA. I'm hoping he can recover. Foot injuries are hell on big men, though. Ask Bill Walton.

Yao is one of the greatest 7'6" player played in the NBA. He will be missed.

I know something about foot problems, having played b-ball myself. Have had stress fractures in both of them and have had to wear orthotics for years.
Yao needs to take a year, maybe a year and a half off and reassess. If he's doing ok, work his way slowly into shape. But patience is key here.
My podiatrist told me the foot has a LOT of bones in it, a LOT. It can be tempermental as hell. I know, believe me. This injury is a lot different than my problems, though. Here's hoping he heals up and returns!

That's too bad if it's true, I'm not a Rocket fan, but I do admire Yao. He seems cool guy.

im not convinced yet if yao will be out completely this coming season. i just hope he has surgery asap. i wouldn't be surprised to hear in a few months from now "yao could possibly return to play this season due to the favorable progress in the healing of his foot".
