Discussion for any games happening for FIBA and other international tournaments in 2022 and all that comes with it -- preparations, rosters, match-up game previews, actual games, post-games, trivias, etc.
It would be nice if we get participation from various citizenship forum members.
Sea Games. June 2022. This is an every-2 years tournament among countries surrounded by the seas, with lots of beautiful beaches -- Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. Oh and they are in south east Asia (sea) too so how serendipitous was that.
It's occurs every 2 years, barring pandemic. The past 30 years the Philippines dominated this. Now, a major storm, better yet, typhoon, is brewing. Other countries are hell bent to stop the erstwhile powerhouse.
Almost each country has something new to offer than it had ever before. Vietnam has the Juzang brothers -- Johnny (UCLA) - an NBA draft prospect this year, and Christian (Harvard). They also are the host country and would have the home crowd advantage. Thailand has 6'10 Center in Chanatip Jakrawan, good enough to be hired as an import in Taiwan pro league. Malaysia has dangled it's players US$40K each if they beat Philippines. Malaysia was the last team that beat the Philippines back in 1989.
But the biggest movement is coming from Indonesia. They have naturalized Marques Bolden of Cleveland Cavaliers to play for their team. In addition, they have 2 US D1 talents in 19 year old Indo-Am Derrick Michael (GCU) , a 6'8 athletic NBA prospect, and Brandon Jawato (formerly of Hawaii). Last but not certainly least, Indonesia has naturalized 2 Senegalese players -- both 6'5+ at the time and 15 years old, 2 years ago. Now 1 of them (Diame), 6'5, is going to play in the Sea Games. The other 1 who is taller is going to be added next year in the FIBA World Cup, giving them a total of 5 tall and athletic players.
Indonesia is the biggest threat to come to toppling Philippines in a loooong while. Will it happen?
Also happening about the same time is FIBA U17 Asia PCup.
The top 4 teams in the Asia (and Oceania) Cup would complete the FIBA U17 World Cup happening the very next month after that in Jul 2022. Whoa. Talk about no time to rest for Asia teams.
USA is in Group C along with Mali, Slovenia and the 4th placer of Asia Cup.

This was the team that got USA into the World Cup this July. They played August last year in FIBA Americas U16 beating Argentina by 15 pts to win the Gold medal. https://www.usab.com/news-events/new...-6-vs-arg.aspx
There may be some changes in the upcoming World Cup roster. For example, they may be replacing one of the guards with Vyctorius Miller.
Thailand is suddenly a great team with what looks like having a Caucasian coach. Thailand actually bagged the gold medal in 3x3 a couple of days ago vs Indonesia Philippines, the prior champ, did not even get to the final game this time around and had to settle with a bronze defeating Vietnam.
This tells you how the SEA games is suddenly becoming very exciting!
This Thailand gold-medal 3x3 team comprised of 4 players will continue to suit up the battle for Thailand for the 5x5 games. First up is vs reigning 5x5 champ Philippines. Thailand's fab 4 vs Philippines' Junemar "The Kraken" Fajardo, the behemoth Titan of the Seas himself. (For some reason the Vietnamese announcers reading his name as "Fa-rah-do" instead of "Fa-har-do", anyway he is the #15 jersey on the white team).
What happens? Who prevails? Which team dives and which team surfs? Watch it guys and enjoy!
