I've never seen them in the city or even heard of it. A friend who lives in River Bend has had turtles, armadillos, frogs and other critters in her yard but nothing lethal.

Louisiana residents do not have much of a problem with snakes or gators. they dont live IN the swamps. A handful of people do but they usually deal WITH those creatures in their work. We dont have the sorts of problems that FLorida does with gators in peoples yards.
Especially not Baton Rouge, which is miles away from the swamps.

Thanks Innotech.

"A handful of people do but they usually deal WITH those creatures in their work. "

Can you please explain what you meant?

Some people live in the swamps and make a living catching alligators and snakes for research or for skins. They live off the land.

I get copperheads and water moccasins in my back yard every once in a while -- maybe once or twice a year -- and I don't live in the swamps either. They usually get here by chasing a potential meal. Just leave them alone and they'll leave after they've gotten the rodent they're after.

You likely would have more problems with critters in Montana than Baton Rouge.

Ditto on what Rosinante said.
