Default Need help with housing in Baton Rouge

Hi,

My sister will be moving to Baton Rouge in about a week. I'm going with her to try help her find a place, but I know very little about Baton Rouge, except what I've read on these boards. A small apartment will be fine. She just wants the basics, a simple clean place to go back to at the end of the day. She needs to stay for several months while her daughter is at the rehabilitation center. The place is located somewhere in the area of N. Sherwood Forest Dr. and Florida Blvd. Inexpensive housing would be best, as she took a leave from work to stay with her. Any suggestions on how to begin searching for a place, or what to expect? I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks,
SummerRses

Couple of thoughts:
(1) Here is an apartment sight which may help: Apartments.com - Search Results
(2) Stay south of Florida as a rule of thumb. With the area you're likely to be in/near, I'll go further and say (a) I'd avoid anything on Flannery, (b) DEFINTELY avoid Boulevard De Province - those apartments went down in the 1980s, (c) Apartments on Cedarcrest near Coursey went Section 8 in the late 1980s, (d) I'd avoid an area bounded by Coursey, Sherwood Commons, and Airline - that's an apartment city that is fairly slummy.

So where can you live ? There are some nearby areas that aren't so bad. (a) Castlebrook on S. Sherwood is older, but OK, (b) Edgewood on Stumberg is OK, (c) there are apartments on Coursey near Stumberg (I think they're called Sherwood Acres) which are OK, (d) some apartments on I-12/Millerville are nice and new, (e) Willowbend Lake/Forestwood at I-12 and Sherwood seem OK.

Default Thanks for the Suggestions

Thank you, BRman. I appreciate all the suggestions. It appears to be some great advice and I'll copy it and bring it when we go hunting for a place. It's so nice when people help out like this, so that you don't have to go into a situation "blind". This really sounds helpful. Thanks again.
