I am hoping to be in a decent public school system. As a public school teacher myself, I do believe in the system:-)
OK, just saw this that says where your husbands job is going to be. If you are coming from Prairieville during crap traffic you would be looking at around 20-30 minutes. If no traffic you are looking at 10 minutes of less. I live right off Airline Hwy (which is US 61) halfway between Gonzales and Prairieville (Off Duplesis Rd) and can be to my job at Perking and Siegan in 15 minutes with no traffic. I drive non-prime time though. When I have to drive into town during morning rush, it will take me 20-30 minutes to get to Sherwood Forrest/Siegan at Airline.

I went to Dutchtown highschool in Geismar, that school is a great school, as well as the others but Dutchtown is the best. There are many many new homes and they're growing fast. I just left the area for Houston this morning.

Just wanted to second that advice... love that area.

It is so difficult to tell this on a map. Is this area in Prairieville? Is it a subdivision, or just homes with land?

Also, do you know where Fountain Hill subdivision is? It seems nice online. I like that there is a community pool:-)

I know about both areas. The first is a really nice part of Prairieville with big expensive homes lining the street. Right by Blue Bayou water park and I-10. Fountain Hill is off of that same street. It's a very nice subdivision. The drive into BR is literally across Bayou Manchac, approximately 1 mile from FH and even less depending on which side of Old Perkins you wish to live. FH is on Bluff Rd, look on a map to clarify. If you need more help feel free to ask.

You better get here before you strat dreaming about homes. We did the internet search thing, and then when we got here we completely changed our search criteria. The maps are really misleading because they don't show you the surrounding or the traffic patterns.

There are deals to be had in the upper price ranges right now; not alot moving these days. For gated communities; there really aren't much choices other than CCL. On the non-gated front there are a whole bunch of places to look in your price range; I am sure you will find a newer home that fits your needs in that price range.

We used to live on highland rd and the intersection of perkins and I-10 was always terrible with traffic on peak hours. Consider that depending on which side your of I-10 your husband will work.

Oaks on the Bluff is a great neighorhood in the ascension parish area. Here is a list of subdivisions in Prairieville. I would look at Oaks on the Bluff, Bluff Oaks, and Fountain Hill as these are all pretty close to your husband's work location:

Prairieville Subdivisions list - homes for sale, demographics, schools and more

Schools here are pretty awesome too. Check out www.greatschools.org and see where ascension parish schools compare as opposed to East baton rouge. Good luck.
