What will it take to get a Pro Sports team (MLB, NHL, etc.....) to Baton Rouge and separate itself from New Orleans? BR is obviously catching up to NO population wise....any ideas?

Not going to happen. All we could support is the relatively short schedule of an NFL team. MLB teams play what 81 games a season? NBA plays 82 games a season. With a strong fan base of nearly the entire city and other cities, it would be hard to support LSU football, the Saints, LSU baseball, LSU mens basketball, The Hornets, and Professional team in the city? Now I would like to see a MLB park made out of Memorial park, or a NFL stadium downtown. However, who would pay for the stadium, the taxpayers. And I'd think it flop and move to another city. It would be a great addition though, but New Orleans has two, and there only a short drive away.

U may have a point, but what makes New Orleans able to support pro sports teams with a population not much bigger than Baton Rouge? Are we saying when BR gets population numbers like NO or bigger then we will see it? I mean I believe maybe one day BR will see it.....its just a matter of when.

New Orleans is an easy attraction for away team fans. People love going to New Orleans for a game, they can stay by the dome or arena, do the tourist thing downtown, and stumble back to the hotel and pass out. Plus New Orleans attendance is high for the Saints, moderate I think for the Hornets but good. I don't think Baton Rouge could support another team. Although, Tiger Stadium holds significantly more people than the Superdome and sells out.

N.O. has name recognition , and it still has issues with holding on to it's pro teams . If it were not for the infusion of money from the state , they would have left a long time ago . B.R. cannot compete with N.O. as far as the tourist industry aspect . Besides , the state has enough money drains , we don't need any more .

Infrastructure, capital, sponsorship, and the ability to support a team.

I think Baton Rouge could possibly support something minor league. I always wished there was at least a AA or AAA baseball team there, but had to drive to Metairie to watch the Zephyrs. The fact is, the whole metro area spends so much of its time and resources on LSU athletics, that it really doesn't have much left for any other sort of sports. The folks left that still wanna support a pro team, are supporting the New Orleans teams, so I just don't think you'll ever see anything professional survive in Baton Rouge, unfortunately...

I now live in the 7th largest city in America, and even we don't have a friggin' NFL team. Baton Rouge has a big thing goin' with LSU, so I'd say that's better than nothing for sure. Heck, Alex Box Stadium is bigger and nicer than a lot of minor league baseball parks, though I'd say the atmosphere isn't the same, at least in my opinion. I compare the sports situation in BR to that of Austin, and how they spend their resources on the Longhorns.

You have some very good points, although LSU sports is better than nothing, it still sucks we might not ever get anything else Professional wise, but as BR grows, u never know....maybe one day we might see something minor league. Speaking of that, im very shocked to see Austin not have anything professional being a city of its size.
