Hello everyone,

I might be making the move back to Louisiana for college. (I graduated in 2010 with T.O.P.S but i ended moving to Georgia so I could not utilize it). But since financial aid problems and shortages of funds at a private institution. 45,000k... I am making the trek back to Louisiana. I got accepted into Louisiana State University as a transfer for finance and a minor in political science/pre law. And my Tops was reinstated as a return to a Louisiana College.

So my three major questions are......

1.) I am wondering what are some of the best affordable areas to locate. I want the area to be close to Louisiana State but not that close. I hate living on or really near campuses. I want that ideal spot located near everything. Any apartment suggestions are greatly appreciated.

2.) I have been living in Atlanta (Originally from Houston as well) for two years now and grown accustom to the nightlife and I CAN NOT go back to Monroe La's nightlife lol. How does Baton Rouge stack up in that regard? I know its not going to be like Atlanta or Houston but I do not want it to be like Monroe or even Shreveport. (I like to do what the average college student does... movies, party, concert, and so on)

3. What are some of things I should/could expect from Baton Rouge. (I am totally lost when it comes to Baton Rouge)

Thanks in advance.
If i have any grammar errors please excuse them, I was in a rush. lol

You didn't give a budget do I'm going to suggest downtown, a couple complexes on Corporate Blvd, and along Jefferson to Airline.
Are you only interested in apartments?

Stay away from downtown. What is your price range?

Also look thru other threads. You aren't the first with these questions.

I do not have a definite price range...i can go up to a 1,000.00 (i currently pay that here). I am hoping you can get a decent one bedroom apartment for far less than that though especially in Baton Rouge.

trafficsucks --> I will look into it

Here are some things to know upfront:

1. Traffic is bad. Interstates 10 and 12 are being widened at the same time.

2. City streets were designed for 1970's traffic, not 2012.

3. Stay away from downtown and north Baton Rouge (basically anything north of downtown and north of I-12. Crime and property taxes have pushed the middle class to Ascension Parish/Prairieville which is about 10 minutes to the southeast of Baton Rouge.

4. You won't find any problems finding something to do.

For 1k a month you won't find a problem with a rental. However, rental prices are high in Baton Rouge. I'd look around Bluebonnet and Perkins Rd areas. I'll update this message with some urls.

Turnberry Place Apartments
The Park on Bluebonnet - Baton Rouge, Louisianna - Luxury Apartment Homes
Both of these are near Perkins Rowe (a shopping/residential/entertainment center)

http://tommackeyproperties.com/forrent.html

You can check Craigslist but beware the scams that aak for you to submit paperwork. These are identity theft scams.

There is nothing wrong with downtown and you can live north of I-12 or I-10, just ask us about the area first.

We don't have any exactly like that. The closest to that would be the apartments at Perkins Rowe.

Note to CollegeStudentinAtl: I live in Baton Rouge. North Baton Rouge is ghetto. Go to Baton Rouge news, sports and entertainment on The Advocate and view the crime map. Just do your research. Good luck.
