Hello All,

I plan on moving to Baton Rouge maybe next year and had a few questions.ffirst off I'm a 26 year old black male, single, no children and have a bbackground in public safety(firefighter/EMT). I was actually in Baton Rouge for Hurricane Isaac disaster relief when I worked for the Red Cross and fell in love with the area and people.

1. How's the weather year round?

2. Hows the singles scene?

3. Public safety careers of abundance?

4.Is it a progressive city?

5. Crime?

6. Nightlife?

7. Quality of life?

Thanks and look forward to your responses.

1. How's the weather year round?
Humid year-round. It gets pretty cold during the winter and the summers are brutal. The winters will be mild to you but this winter we had a record number of days below freezing. The summers will test your limits.

2. Hows the singles scene?
It basically revolves around LSU and things like church activities. The scene is decent, but lots of people here will get married and start a family at younger ages. At 26, I wouldn't worry about the single scene much.

3. Public safety careers of abundance?
No idea.

4.Is it a progressive city?
No, not by comparison to places like San Francisco. We are coming around slowly but it's still a smaller conservative southern city.

5. Crime?
Crime is bad in the hood, and they are vast. North Baton Rouge is where it's at but as long as you mind your business, you'll be fine. The high crime areas are avoidable and you're from Detroit.

6. Nightlife?
Bars, restaurants, LSU clubs, etc. Downtown is pretty nice now, there's Live After Five and an abundance of bars, good food, and pretty views downtown. Depends on what you like to do. New Orleans an hour away.

7. Quality of life?
Depends on the person and their compensation. If you get paid well, the QOL can be great. If not, then well...
There are good schools, good food, lots of growth, pretty neighborhoods, etc.
