I've lived in Central for 18 years. My opinion is that it is only going to get better. It is not called Central Community School District for nothing. Central is definitely a community in which the people bind together to improve their community. There is much being done to improve education in Central. If you are not sure about the public schools, try visiting St. Alphonse's Catholic School. You will also find a large number of home schooling families here. Many are in homeschooling co-ops. Or, Victory Academy on Flannery Road offers a good alternative for K-4 through 8th grade. I can attest to the great education my sons received there before Central became its own district. Most students graduating from Victory perform above average in high school. I currently have one child at Central High and it is working out great. My oldest graduated from Central High and scored a 30 on the ACT, if that helps.

Central is located perfectly. Zachary and Denham Springs are easy drives from Central for dining and shopping outside of Central. But, I'd shop Central first. Central is close enough to the city of Baton Rouge without being in the thick of it.

For housing, I would look to the new construction areas like Bellingrath Lakes and avoid Joor Road between Greenwell Springs Road and Lovett. I'd also question the route of the Central Thruway to be built to avoid being in its path. Comite Hills (not to be confused with Comite Estates or Comite Hills West) is a nice somewhat older subdivision with large lots.

Good Luck!

Default Thanks

for the last two post. You have both eased my mind some more.
Central Seems like a nice place to live. I think we will start our housing search again there!

Up Date:

We settled on Clear Lake Estates off S.Harrells Ferry and could not be happier.

Hubby only has a 12 minute drive to work, The kids love St.Jean Vianney. We are regulars now at the End Zone & Jones Creek Cafe. I have plenty of places to grocery shop and If I need other shopping I am only a short drive to any where in the city. The interstate is close by as is a hospital.
