We’d prefer to be in the downtown area so that it will be easy for us to see more in the two days we’ll be there though we do plan on driving around to see homes and subdivisions (all the homes we’ve seen for sale online look amazing compared to what we’re use to in Northern NJ and we would like to see all of this in person). Also, if anyone can suggest what residential areas to focus on near the potential employer I will be meeting with (Essen Lane near United Plaza) that would not involve a difficult commute – maybe around 30mins or so, that would be much appreciated!

BR has a number of suite hotels. Dh's sister stayed at the Chase Suites (on Corporate Blvd.) last June. It was reasonably priced and pretty nice. It's located off I-10 one exit down from Essen Lane (United Plaza).

In that same area is Homewood Suites and Best Western Richmond Suites. There's also a brand new Residence Inn a little further down Corporate Blvd. right next to the Towne Center at Cedar Lodge.

I'm curious about the rental in the Garden District. Is it a regular apartment?
Downtown BR is undergoing a revitalization, but it's slow going. If your employer is on Essen near I-10, you'd be better off staying more to the south and east, so you're more centrally located for checking out the city. Focus on Areas 5 & 6 for housing closest to Essen/I-10. Here's a link to some
for sale by owners to give you more of a feel of what's out there.
Moderator cut: sorry, no real estate listings at all in state forums The Corporate Blvd. area is near the I-10/I-12 split. To get to the Essen Lane exit near United Plaza you would take I-10 to the split, then I-12 to the next exist which is Essen. If you take I-10 to Essen you'll end up a mile or 2 south of United Plaza. Hope that made sense.
