neighborhood problem in BR
Does anyone know who to contact regarding speeders in our neighborhood? I am tired of these teens, usually, racing down our quiet streets! I have contacted our POA and they say they have requested stop signs or speed bumps and both ideas were shot down by whoever. Now they are making a fourth filing and these people are only going to add to the traffic through the rest of the neighborhood. Any suggestions otherr than selling the house and moving to another neighborhood?

Seems like now would be the best time in getting the city to put up deterrents. They've been installing stop signs and speed humps around Glenmore and Marquette Aves. I'm not sure what all it takes to getting them added to your street, although it does usually take a traffic study. And it appears that the streets have to be of local significance (i.e. it's a through street that is high traffic or acts as a shortcut between streets). Then the city is more prone to act on it.

Thanks for your reply. Our street is a shortcut between 2 neighborhoods, so it is high traffic for sure. Do you know who I would need to contact by chance?

I don't know a specific person right off. I'd try with the DPW office first. I think they are in charge of civic traffic engineering and they should know the process behind requesting new signs or speed humps.

why dont u call your local police dept and have them send someone out to sit there for a day or two or whatever it may take??? get their plates...let the cops know to keep an eye out....I live on a very busy corner and we have a cop who sits on my corner at least twice a week and he is not scared to write tickets...also anyone who drives here often is aware of his presence and slows down just in case...

Is your case in BTR?
We have a problem downtown with people making left turns from the right lane on one way roads (specifically North St. at 4th and North at the LaSalle garage), and we have asked DPS officers to watch for it (since they love watching for speeders coming down the North Street off ramp), but we have yet to see them on those corners. I wonder if BRPD would be any more helpful.

No currently im in texas and we have alot of cops here and one that lives 2 houses down so they dont mind at all.... but I did have the same problem in baton rouge..i had small children and lived on a busy street so that was always one of my concerns...it REALLLY helps to have a neighbor that is a cop or a friend... if not you should call BRPD and see if they can send one during peak hours just to make his presence known a few times, its worth a try...good luck!!!!

Thanks shanla, I will call next Monday! Some people are just so inconsiderate, but most do drive the limit in the neighborhood, it is usually the people in the next neighborhood that are speeding. Thanks again
