Help needed for move to Baton rouge
Dear all,
We are moving to Baton Rouge and will be working at LSU, Veterinary school. Can you please suggest us any suitable/safe apartment closer to school for a family. It will be of great help if some one can suggest about good childcare facility. I was checking the apartment rating website and found The Venue At Northgate.
Thanks!!

The Venue at Northgate is almost all students. Also, while the Venue itself is nice, the neighborhood has had some very serious crime problems recently. It's on the edge of campus and there is quite a bit of student housing in that area, but the instances of armed robberies has increased and two international students were killed last semester in the married student housing, which is very close to The Venue. Anything very close to campus is going to be predominantly student housing, especially the apartments.

Thanks for the help. Do you know about Chateaux Dijon apartment at Essen. Any other suggestions for apartments closer to campus will be quite helpful.

Chateaux Dijon is actually a pretty good location apartment complex. It's between 10/12 so you have easy access to both freeways and it's in the United Plaza business area. I imagine the area is pretty quiet. I never hear of anything going on around there or the property itself and I drive through there all the time. It's a business area. If I were to move from where I'm at, it'd be on my short list of places to look at, although I'd prefer to live downtown.
As far as commute, it's not far enough away from campus that it should cause you any problems. You have Staring, Kenilworth, College/Lee and Standford to get over near Highland Rd and LSU. Say 15-20 minutes depending on the traffic.
Watch out for the new red-light cameras going up at Essen and I-10.

I work at the vet school as well. Welcome to Baton Rouge. We have a 5 year old daughter and there are so many things for kids here. I live in a home, so I cannot help you as far as apartments, but good luck to you!

Southgate Towers is awesome. Cityscape at Essen is nice, too.

My husband and I are moving to Baton Rouge from Florida as well. He will be beginning his E.R. residency at Earl K. Long so we'd like to be close to that area but we want to be safe. We have an infant and a small dog, so we don't want to be around a lot of college kids. Do you have any suggestions or found any good areas through your research?
