Default thinking of moving to baton rouge

Hi there. my fiancee and i are thinking of moving to br , she will be going to Lsu and as of the moment i drive a truck during the week. This means she will be alone most times, so i'm looking for an apartment close to her school for a decent price that is safe and close. any suggestions?

Should be easy to do. The area south of LSU's campus is littered with apartments and condos. The best thing I can suggest is to just drive the area one day and check a few of them out. I am familiar with Oakbrook, which isn't a bad property at all. The rent includes simple things like internet, phone, cable and water I believe. TigerPlaza is sort of the pits however. There a properties scattered all over Brightside Dr. as well. Tigerland seems to be somewhat of a haven for property crimes along with the area around Gardere which is another 2 or 3 miles south of Lee/Brightside. Of course, those two areas are the cheapest, go figure. It's funny how you have to pay for just a little more security.
If you don't mind commuting from about 10-15 minutes away, there are plenty of other quiet properties around Essen Lane, Jefferson Hwy and Bluebonnet.
You can also pick up, or order online, one of those apartment finder guides that specializes in the Baton Rouge area. By all means, it isn't comprehensive. So it doesn't hurt to check the local papers and places like Craigs List as well, but be careful. A lot of the places that seem too good to be true are usually just that for a reason.

I would also recommend looking around the area near the lakes (the Perkins/Morning Glory area) and into the Garden District. It's a little more unique, and is a more family-oriented area. The Garden District does get some crime (mostly non-violent, the occasional break-in) as you get closer to Government St., but you should get an idea of what your potential neighborhood is like if you ask the neighbors.
