Default Baton Rouge: area names and maps?

OK...I'm getting the basics of where the "bad" areas are around Baton Rouge...no Gardere, no north of Florida Blvd.

BUT...does anyone know of a map that would *show* me where areas are? Like..where is 100 Oaks, Mid-town or Spanish Town (places suggested to me to look for a house)? They seem to just be unofficial names and it's kind of difficult to determine where they are when you're not familiar with the area. Some are listed on the google map...but not all.

How far north of Florida Blvd is bad? Or just until you reach the end of LA?

Anyone have info on the areas around Perkins between Essen and Siegen (not traffic-wise, homes/safety-wise)?

I'm even willing to mock up a map if someone could help with specifics...since there seem to be a lot of request on where to live.

Those are some good questions.

We recently bought off S.Harrells Ferry Road. My husband works north of Florida and wouldn't even consider any thing near there or north of the interstate.

I asked the locals every where I went questions about the city. You would be surprised how even people in the grocery store were so willing to offer advice. But a good realtor is always helpful.

Good luck in your home search.

Nothing north of the Interstate? Whatever for. There are many of nice, wealthy neighborhoods between the interstate and Florida Boulevard. Bocage, for example.

OK...that's exactly what I mean. Where is Bocage? Do you mean I-10 or I-12? Most of the maps I've seen don't include area names. A google search for 'Bocage' comes back with a bunch of businesses along Jefferson Hwy./Lobdell Ave.

I'm sure boundary lines may be fuzzy, since they seem unofficial (?). To an outsider, or maybe I'm just slow to catch on, it seems confusing.

Thanks for everyone's help...I'll figure this out eventually!

It's like every other city. You learn the areas as you go. Just ask and people will be happy to pinpoint their location for you, but you're not going to find a real "neighborhood" map of this city.
Bocage is basically centered around the intersection of Old Hammond and Jefferson near the Towne Center shopping district/Whole Foods Market.
Spanishtown should come up online, it's centered around Spanishtown Rd near the Capitol.
MidCity is centered around Government Street basically east of N. 22nd and west of the intersection with Jefferson Hwy.
Hundred Oaks runs from Perkins Rd to Glenmore between Government and I-10. The Catholic Life Center is along the middle of it.

Ok, Sorry didn't know about that place. We have been looking now for 6 months and not one person until NOW mentioned that place. Wish when I posted before where to look some one would have piped up and told us to look there.

That would be why I say generally north of Florida Blvd, and not north of the interstate. Garden District, Hundred Oaks, Old Goodwood, Bocage, BR Country Club, all are good areas. Some are pretty high priced though.
They have bad areas south of the interstate as well, just not in huge concentrations.
