Why is Baton Rouge's growth still stagnant with a big university there like the UT in Austin that has helped it grow?

Actually, Baton Rouge has two major universities: LSU and Southern. I think it's due to the political climate and governance as well as infrastructure and cultural amenities. Perhaps Baton Rouge needs to find way to attract the "creative class" in a way that Austin has. In addition to being the capital of Texas, Austin has been able to attract major musical festivals (SXSW) and has become a major tech hub in the Southwest by attracting tech firms and entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley. So, it may boil down to tech, culture and creativity.

So the Chamber of Commerce and the politics and the culture of the region are lazy and want growth to stay stagnant

As an Austinite, I'd also throw in that the BR infrastructure is awful. Bottleneck's everywhere. Until access to the west bank of the MS river is improved, I think growth is somewhat geographically constrained.

Austin, despite the percentage of bedwetters, is civilized. Baton Rouge is not. The population is shrinking.

While the city population is a bit stagnant I believe the metro area experienced decent growth from 2010-2020. Its not all bad.

I keep seeing headlines talking about our population declining, but there are also people moving to the area. Right now I'm in the process of helping 3 different families get moved to BR for new jobs and I'm talking to more than are moving in the near future. These people are coming from TX, MO, and TN... and I'm talking to people from AZ, CO, and NC.

I think we've got a great economy that will attract more people. Hopefully we're headed in the right direction.

Calm down, we know the lowly HBCU isn't aloud to buck the trend.
