Take the Southern Route
I'd stay out of Colorado if possible. I-70 has steep grades and mountain passes with unpredictable weather and avalanche danger.
I-40 can get icy and snowy in Flagstaff (6800 feet in elevation)
I-10 is usually a good way to go weather-wise, but it's boring as hell from El Paso to Bellemont. My mother-in-law said to us before we made the move from San Diego to Lafayette.... it takes 6 days to get across Texas. Well, it was true. My husband got the flu shortly after we entered the state, and we hit heavy rain in Seguin and got stuck there for 2 additional days.
3 days? Do you plan on sleeping at all? It's a long trip!
