Where NOT to live in EBR
Hi, my husband and I are hoping to move to the BR area sometime before Christmas. For the first six months we are going to live in the new apts in Gonzales, next to Tanger. Afterward, we are not sure. My BIL lives in Prarieville. I don't really like the cookie cutter subdivisions, and am either hoping to build ourselves, or buy a house with a little more history. I have been looking at Broadmoor, Sherwood Forrest, and areas like that. We have a 2 year old and a 7 month old, but if we move into EBR they will be going to private schools. So where should we NOT live? If you can give specific neighborhood/subdivision names, I would really appreciate it!

Not to live: (1) north of Florida Blvd except for Central and Zachary, (2) Blvd De Provence street, (3) Gardere Lane, (4) GSRI Road, (5) Flannery Road
Possible places to live (not knowing your price range, and assuming you want a BR address): Shenandoah, Parkview Oaks, Hickory Ridge, Azalea Lakes, Oak Hills, Wimbledon, Westminister, Jefferson Terrace, Iberville Terrace, Kenilworth, Pollard Estates, Audibon Terrace

Broadmoor and Sherwood are established neighboorhoods. public schools are near..Do your reasearch about schools, i attended Broamoor ,Sherwood schools more than 15 years ago. There is a different dynamic now than then but this a decent working class neighboor hood..good luck.

I would not suggest Broadmoor or Tara subdivision for a young family, because those neighborhoods been going down for a few years now. Anything in EBR parish that is North of Florida or South of Zachary isn't that good, especially inside Baton Rouge. Gardere and old South Baton Rouge are also no no's. Parts of Sherwood Forest are okay, but, like Broadmoor, it has been on a downward trend. Bocage is a nice neighborhood. A few homes in the older section are similar to those in Broadmoor and Tara, but they come with a higher price tag, and are generally better maintained. College Hills, Pollard Estates, Woodland Ridge, Westminster, Jefferson Terrace, Shenandoah, and most neighborhoods off of Highland Road and Perkins Road are good. The Garden District and Capitol Heights could also be contenders

North Baton Rouge is where a good majority of crime in Baton Rouge occurs.

Thanks! Our price range is what's killing us. We are looking at no more than 200k. Apparently it doesn't buy as much in BR as it does here in Birmingham.

Oh I should also say we were looking at a house in Broadmoor, very cute house with a pool. I guess the fact that the neighborhood is going down explains why the ad says MAKE OFFERS! LOL.

Part of the problem with Broadmoor and Sherwood Forest, though they have decent square footage and lot size, is that they're surrounded on three sides by older apartments - Sherwood especially.
