Hello all!
I am a widowed mother of 2 kids and will be relocating to the Baton Rouge area next week. I still have not found a place to lease (crazy huh?)--mainly because I wont have the money for deposits and such until this weekend. I will start Southern Law School at night on August 19th and will be working at Plaquemine High School starting August 11th. I know that Plaquemine is not too close so i'm willing to make that drive every day. I am looking to find a nice place to lease in BR. My little cousin will be attending LSU so it probably needs to be on the bus line since she does not have a car. I'd rather it be safer than close if you know what I mean...From what I hear (read) I should stay more southeastern in terms of where I live. I have two sons, one who will be in the 5th grade and the other who will be in daycare.
Does anyone have any tips about good diverse neighborhoods with good schools for my older son to addend? I'm very concerned about quality elementary schools for my oldest son. Any help about good (but affordable) daycare for my youngest son would be awesome! I also need to find a little league football team for my oldest to play with (one of the conditions of us moving was that I find a team for him to play with--he LOVES football). Because I am a widow, so I don't have the best credit, but I do have a stable work and rental history. If you know of something for rent in a good area or have a bit of advice PLEASE let me know.
To sum it up:
I need a tolerant-diverse area to lease with good schools, quality, affordable day care (and little league football).
i'll also mention that I'm African-American
I know its a lot...but thanks!

Default Map of BR

Hello!

I'll be moving to BR in about a month, hopefully. What I did is go on Apartments.com and craigslist.com and did a quick search for my price range to get an idea. After that I did a crime search on areas, the link below takes you to the BRPD's map of crimes. You can click on a certain area then click on a zone of that area and get an idea.

BR does have a high burglary rate compared to other cities, but that includes anything stolen. So if you lock your doors and pay attention to what's going on around you, you should be fine. Hell I'm in Phoenix and currently live in the GHETTO and there are constantly issues. But I never get messed with and I'm white and live a predominate Hispanic area...what can I say? I really liked this house. But anyways...take a look at the map.

Great point. The
Bus is not great in BR however...so that can be a challenge.
