Xcaped NOLA is on a distinguished road
Default Dissappointed by Job Prospects in BR

Before I begin, let me say that I don't have a background in the oil and gas/petrochemical industry nor the medical field, which probably means that I'm ***** out of luck as far as finding a good paying job here in BR. What I do have is a BA in business(seems almost worthless) and years of experience in finance and customer service. Yet since 02/08, when I moved here, I have not been able to get a well paying job here. Sure,I've had promising interviews, but no job. I started working temp in the meanwhile and everyone I talk to says the same things.."It's hard to get a well paying job here" Are they right? I'm not looking for an executive job, but I'm not trying to work as a bank teller or in retail again either, which seems to be what's out there for people with my background. A decent paying office job would suffice-but I can't seem to find that. The Advocate classified literally circulates the same jobs for WEEKS . And you'd think that there were more and better jobs posted on the internet...Yeah right Are these people right or am I not looking in the right places. And yes, I plan to try the State- the last resort for weary jobseekers. Should I leave here like all the jobs have done and go over to Texas?Give me your insights.

I am sorry that you are having such a tough time. I have many friends all over the country and they all say the same thing you are saying. I think that unless you live in the north, it is hard to find a good paying job. I used to live in Florida and the pay there is the same as here( Xray tech). It is the same in many places, so I cannot help you in your search for a decent job, just giving input. Good Luck to you though!
