Default customer service in BR

Can someone please tell me what on earth happened to all the nice service people in this town!?? My family and I moved here 4 years ago and the people in target, wal mart and many other places as such were the friendliest in the south. I have no idea what has happened, but it seems like the past year or so, people in those areas of work have gotten so crabby and downright rude. One reason that brought us here was the friendliness of the people here...I have no idea what to think of late! Anyone have any ideas or opinions??

I think alot of people in the service industry got really sick of people in general after the whole "evacuee" thing happened to BTR. Even though almost all of them have left, I think they left a lasting mark on us here in BTR. I know that I love my New Orleans relatives to death. They are great in small doses, but I would be pretty pissy if I had to spend a year with them. lmao

I wonder if because of all the retail outlets that have opened within the past few years, that stores had to be less choosy about who they've hired, because there are ony so many retail employees to go around. Because I've noticed slipshod service in some restaurants.

Thanks for the replies! Both sound like great reasons. I just wish the old Baton Rouge would come back...think there is any chance of that one day!!?? Althought I have seen some nicer gestures on the roads of late!

With our being a metro area of 700-800K, I think we're a little bigger than a small town Still, we're not the kind of place that will have wild growth (the post Katrina period was a MAJOR exception), so there will always be some "old" Baton Rouge.

Good to hear from you about Baton Rouge. I love it here-especially after seeing Halloween in our neighborhood. Everyone really goes all out to make the kids happy-and scared!! Makes me think all is not lost!

southland is on a distinguished road
Wow...I didn't realize it had gotten so bad. They are usually friendly in Houston.
