That was NOT a common occurrence. People try to make BR out to be a war zone, but it's like any small big city - there are parts of town you just learn to stay away from.

...like almost anything north of Florida (except Central and Zachary), anything north of LSU, Gardere, Blvd De Province,......

My Mom just came down for a short visit. I am not from Baton rouge, but I asked around and can tell you what we did. It was pretty fun. On day one we went to Avery Island and did the tabasco tour and jungle drive. On the second day we went to LSU rural life museam, the old state capital, and the old gov mansion. On day three we went to St Francisville to a Rosedown and downtown St Francisville. On the last day we went to New Orleans to Harrahs and then walked down to the french market, cafe du monde, and all the shops inbetween. Besides what we did the is the USS Kid, doing a swamp tour, going fishing, and a lot of other stuff.

No. Not that I'm aware of at least, but I'm pretty sure. Especially since they allowed the casinos to stay docked permanently.

How about:
Tiger Stadium
Loyola University and Tulane (both highly respected institutions)
Pennington Biomedical research center
The longest bridge in the world
Tallest state capitol building
Incredible wildlife
...the list goes on.

Get out of here already. You obviously don't respect this state, so I find it unlikely that you will find happiness any place else.
