Things to do in Baton Rouge
My family and I will be traveling to the Baton Rouge area around the 4th of July. What kinds of family friendly things are there to do? We will be spending 3 days there.

If you like to gamble, there is the Casino Rouge. Not family friendly...
There is the USS Kidd battleship on the Mississippi... It is a fun thing and it is located on the riverwalk which has been redone and is nice.
Aside from that, everyone usually goes to LSU events... The campus is nice and the walk around the main lake is quite pretty.

There is a nice zoo, several nature trails, parks and swamp boat rides.

things to do in baton rouge
I lived in baton rouge for 17 years. i loved it and hated it. i hated it because of the traffic dont go anywhere after 3 pm stay off the interstate it is a parking lot. There are a lot of great things to do in baton rouge. You will be there on july 4. make sure you have reservations at hotel. the town has trippled in size since katrina. Do not miss july 4 on the levee. down town under the Interstate 10 bridge. Watch for signs for catfish town and USS Kid. Spend the day on the levee, there may be a thousand or more people there. dress in shorts and something cool. it will be hot. find a shady spot under overhead walkway. bring a blanket and plenty of fluids. ice chest on wheels is best. they do sell all kinds of beer and soft drinks and all sorts of food. the venders along the levee. there will be free concerts on the levee all day july 4. i have seen randy travis there, the beach boys. the baton rouge smyphony. They have a mock attack on the uss kid battleship. Bi planes from the confederate air force attack the ship. fake bombs. reminds me of tora tora tora. The firworks over the river are more spectacular than any i have ever seen.

Consider making the hour drive into New Orleans and go to Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium, both open Tuesday thru Sunday from 10:00-5:00/6:00. Well worth the trip! We have one of the best zoos in the country and our wonderful Aquarium recently reopened since Katrina after making great efforts to repopulate its tanks. The penguins who survived Katrina along with Buck & Emma, the otters who survived, just came back home via Fed Ex. A beautiful homecoming! There are a lot of great things to do in New Orleans, but for families I highly recommend these two attractions. Next door to the Aquarium is the IMAX theater as well.
Have a safe trip and enjoy! My son and I are leaving Sunday, relocating to the Memphis area. You may have seen me poking around the TN forum. I've seen you, Mrs. Michelle! You provide a lot of helpful info. Thanks!

We did not have to time to do much. We had a family reunion in Zachary. We ended up going out only once to Satterfield's. We took the ferry. It was really quaint and nice. We enjoyed watching all the boats and the food was great. It was on a Sunday so most of the shops were closed. But, it was fun anyway. We left the next day and went to Gulf Shores, Al.

The best thing to do in any city in Louisiana is simply this: Leave it. The best thing to come out of LA is Interstate 10.

New Year's Eve 2006
My name is Katrina and on New Year's Eve my husband and I will be celebrating our anniversary in Baton Rouge, I have found a very lovely hotel and restaurant but after the restaurant dinner, I was wondering if someone could help me with where to go later that night or what would be a nice outing?

We are moving to Zachary and I can't believe that the only 4th of July celebration is in Baton Rouge. I am used to the small towns having street fairs and thier own fireworks displays.
