Default littering

I have noticed a lot of litter around Baton Rouge in about the past year or so. Does anyone know who I can call to see if and when they have people(usually prisoners0 picking up the terrible litter? It is really bad on Pecue Lane! I live near there and it has gotten really bad. I have even picked some up myself, but when I saw a condom, that was it for me! I know that men have been seen picking up litter downtown-any ideas?

Channel 2 and/or the Mayor's office might be good places to start. It's really gross around the Target on Siegen.

If you see someone littering you can report the incident to the DEQ. If you provide the offender's License Plate #, the DEQ will send a letter to him that suggest that littering is a crime punishable by fine.

Default thanks

Thank you both for your replies! I contacted channel 2 and they are looking into it. I just cannot stand people that litter! Also, is it me or are people in traffic downright rude right now! Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

And we thank you for your activism. It's (the litter that seems to be everywhere) one thing about Baton Rougeans I've never understood.

I don't get it either.

And as far as the traffic goes, I think it's just a bad side effect of the Christmas rush. People get so impatient. After New Year's, it should get better.

I wish I could be as optimistic, but the drive from my house to I-10 at Bluebonnet took 5 minutes or less back in the 80s; now I consider myself fortunate in making the same drive in 25 minutes. With the continued growth in the Perkins - Bluebonnet area, the possibilities for improvement seem remote.

BTW, Don't forget that you must send your (much higher) Parish taxes to the sheriff by December 30; they'll be considered late on the 31st.

(Note to those reading this who are not from Louisiana: Louisiana lately has been forcing its assessors to adhere to a 4 year reassessment schedule lately, and this was a reassessment year. Our taxes jumped 20%)

Baton Rouge will quickly become one of those places where only the rich can afford to own property.
I've heard the same thing with Livingston. A co-worker showed me his property tax for the last two years and his went up more like 200%. I imagine that came as a shock to a lot of people out there.

I've heard they've had major tax increases over the years. And the problem was compunded by the fact that the former assessor was very lax about putting properties on the tax rolls that for whatever reason (political connections, perhaps ? ) were never on there to begin with.
