I dont get it!
About 6 or so years ago there was a house in the Garden district for sale. The asking price was about 1.8 million dollars. Maybe 18mill
WHY? When you turn down two streets (less than 1/12 of a mile for sure) you are in the Ghetto.
Is it only in Baton Rouge or am I just naive?
I cant make since of a 1.8million house and 2 streets down there's a crack house and houses that are small, old, and torn down. and drug dealers and drug users and drug abusers and drug Lords

I'm sorry but I would have to say that you are naive because it can be like that in lots of cities, particularly in the south, where in most cities, at least half of it is ghetto. St. Charles Avenue, in New Orleans, for instance, is in some cases only two blocks from the ghetto.

Yeah, most places I've been it's not unheard of to see this sort of thing, although I do think it's more prevalent in the south. I think because rich people up north like to have that 'buffer' between them and the poor. Down south, it's not quite as obvious because most people down here younger than say 40 grew up poor (or at least not as rich as some people are today). Now we have a new generation of young folks who grew up wealthy. We'll see what happens there.

If it's a historic house that people are willing to pay money for, that's the way it goes. Personally, I think that's a bit much - for THAT kind of money, there are planty places to live along Lakeshore Drive and/or Highland Road.

I won't pay 1.8M for anything. Most houses are too overpriced to begin with.

I wonder what they ended up getting for that house. Asking isn't necessarily getting.

I'd pay $1.8M for enough land to keep the neighbors away.

1.8 million would buy a nice buffer zone between me and " them " .

I'd pay 1.8 mil if it was a house I really liked and/or wanted.
