The BR Bike Club has a mixture of people of different ages (a couple of women). I want to say there is a separate group of female riders (Velochicks or something like that) that rides on Sat mornings starting either at "The Split" (River Road splits off into two down in Iberville Parish) and/or Alligator Bayou (roughly near I-10 at the EBR /Ascension/Iberville parish line).
As for jobs, what kind of work are you interested in ? You can PM me if you want.

Yeah, if you're into cycling and join other recreation groups with BREC and independent clubs, you're sure to make friends quickly. BREC tennis, BRSA soccer, RSAK kickball, and I think there's an independent dodgeball league now. Flag football, softball, canoeing, ice hockey, roller derby even. There's plenty but you got to look for it, or ask about it. In most of these groups, you'll make lifelong friends.

The Velochicks? How awesome, I'm definitely wanting to do that! As far as jobs, I'm a media buyer now, working in advertising for a correspondence school. I have skills in Human Resources too, but I'd like to stay in advertising.

For larger organizations here, you have the TV stations, the universities (LSU, Southern, BR Community College, Our Lady of the Lake college), state government, and the petrochemical plants. I don't know about the availability of media buyer jobs, but I imagine the organizations listed above would be a good starting point.
And I'd like to add to the above remark about BREC: it seems to be a pretty well run organization. A property tax passed several years is giving them extra $$ to do park improvements/expansions. Olympia Stadium (which is around the corner from your new location) is undergoing a major facelift.
