Yea I need to keep within price range but the lenders are giving me hell because since I wont be moving 60 days after I close they expect me to put 20% down. So I have been going left and right with them and my agent. Has anyone ever heard of Vieux Carre condos on government st? If so, how is this complex? Area?As for mississippi I hope to someday buy a house there.

Vieux Carre is pretty old, and on the wrong side of Government. I lived there as a very young child. Can't say as to how they are now... the website makes them look appealing and I would love to see them in person. I would recommend you lease a place for six months and take your time to decide on where to buy. You'll get a better feel for where you want to live. What's the rush? If it's the tax credit, I have heard a lot of talk about it being extended (and possibly increased), but it's just talk at this point. Good luck.

Yeah the website does make the property look nice. I'm not in a rush because I've already put in an offer for a unit so waiting for the bank to reply. Its just that I don't know if that was my best choice, I'm having second thoughts on it. I can rent but I'm not really looking to do that. And yes the tax credit is an incentive but thats not the only reason, and it may or may not be extended.
Thanks, I need luck right now!

I think Vieux Carre has been trying to re-create their image. It looks good from Government Street and I have seen respectable looking people driving in and out of the complex, but you can never tell how happy they are there. That section of Government is pretty decent. I wouldn't feel unsafe there. Could definitely be worth an indepth look if the other offer on the table falls through.

Yes I'm trying to find other units just in case. Not sure about that area but I did see the complex from outside and it looks ok. However, on the outside Riverview looks better but Vieux Carre is in a more populated area. Government street looks ok but I've heard there is a bad part on that street and I would prefer to stay away from there.

There are places off Government St. that are OK but the street itself is (IMO) the worst in town as far as bumps and a bad surface overall. It is really up to what you want to be around and the cost like has been said the Riverview area is not the prettiest but downtown has a new Ebcott (sp)Type center planed for somewhere downtown. Are You moving here permanently are just a few years. That area will sooner are later be developed more but You will still always have the train.I here it almost every day but have goten to where it does not effect Me .Good luck .

I saw one today that sooooooooooooo made me think of you! I sent you a PM with it, its in Nesser Gardens Condos on Jefferson Hwy, maybe others on the forum can tell you if that is a good area. The area looks decent when you drive by.. but you never know with condos. Also I think its gated.

Someone had told me to stay away from nesser gardens but the area does look decent. I'm flying down to baton rouge at the end of the month to meet up with my agent, hopefully I will see something I like that I can manage. Thanks for looking though!
Last week I rejected a counteroffer on a unit in Riverview condos bc the seller wanted 62k for the unit. I'd rather pay a little more and get something better. Have you heard of meridian condos on southfork ave?
