Relocating, Need Information
Hi Everyone,
I am a single, "older" female who will be moving from Columbia, SC soon, to work for Blue Cross (5525 Reitz Avenue). Is anyone familiar with the area?
I like to live fairly close to work. So far, I have found Jefferson Heights Apartments and The Gates at Citiplace. Are these good? Are there any others?
Also, where does a "mature" (LOL) individual go to meet people? I am definitely NOT into the "bar scene."
Thanks!

I'm moving to BR, not NO. Is the crime rate as bad there? Where are the "good" areas?

Moving to BR, Worried About Crime Rate
I'm moving to BR within the next few weeks, to work for Blue Cross. I am a single, older woman who will be living alone, and I am worried about the crime statistics I'm seeing for BR. I also know that the media exaggerates, so I'm hoping someone who actually lives in the BR area can provide the truth. BR seems like a very nice town, but I don't want to put my life in jeopardy!! Can anyone help? Thanks!

Baton Rouge Has had a bad summer as far as crime but it has been in North Baton Rouge which You would not want to live anyway, also Gardere Ln. is another crime area. Just north of LSU campus is another area that is pretty bad.The Majority of Baton Rouge Is OK but just remember crime does not have any boundaries. There are a lot of good areas of baton Rouge and You would not have any problems.Just do Your home work and You will be fine here it is a very friendly town and the people are great. I don't know about the two places You asked about but Feel sure someone will respond and give You more info.Welcome to BR hope You like it.

Blue Cross is in a decent part of town that's very close to the Mall of Louisiana. Residences around it are kept up pretty well. There are some apartments on Jefferson to the north, but by and large they look OK.
The Gates is a nice complex, but you don't want to have to fight Corporate, College, and/or the I-10 widening down to the Bluebonnet exit (which is where Blue Cross is)
Jefferson Heights apartments are so so - there are many better choices along Jefferson between I-12 and Airline. In fact, I'd look at Chatesu Dijon on Essen (between 10 and 12) before Jefferson Heights. And does it have to be an apartment ?
To meet people, you can try health clubs, LSU Leisure classes, church groups, and BREC - they have various classes.

Don't let the naysayers scare you. The crime news you hear is nearly all in bad parts of town. I feel safe here, because I know where NOT to go at night (almost anything north of Florida, Gardere, Blvd De Provence, areas north of LSU)

Thanks for that information. I am interested in either Jefferson Heights Apartments or The Gates @ Citiplace. Are you familiar with either of those compexes? Are they nice? Are they safe? Is one better than the other? I appreciate it, I am looking forward to relocating!

Yep, I'm familiar with both, and I responded in your other posting about these complexes. Bottom line: Gates is nice but you have traffic issues. You can do better than Jefferson Heights.

Hi, nope, it doesn't have to be an apartment...a "patio home" would work as well. Is it a better idea to rent a house?
