You now have a new shortcut between Essen and Bluebonnet - Picardy used to deadend past the BR General. Now it goes all the way through to Essen and ultimately connects with Perkins near Olympia Stadium. This means you can have alternatives to Perkins/Essen, Anselmo/Essen, and Summa/Essen (an AWFUL intersection when at the end of the OLOL work day). And you can now avoid Perkins between Bluebonnet and Olympia.

Moral of the story: while BR has nasty traffic in certain areas at certain times, there ARE alternatives.....

Very good indeed. I imagine I'll use Picardy more than Summa now. I almost never use Anselmo.

I use Anselmo if I'm going from Essen to Bluebonnet, but almost never going the opposite way

Ditto.

Being retired, I have the luxury of avoiding Essen & Bluebonnet during those periods when traffic's the worst. I especially dislike riding on Bluebonnet near the mall because there are so many inconsiderate drivers on their cell phones there increasing the potential for an accident.

I've read in several places that they're working on another connector between Summa, Anselmo, and Perkins somewhere just west of the BR General.

Anyone else hear that?

That would be awesome.....it will certainly help out traffic in this region.

I know a few years ago they were talking about a "Midway Drive" which was going to be between Essen and Bluebonnet. I haven't heard anything since, and the only thing that remotely resembles what you're taling about is the following Green Light project: The Green Light Plan

I, for one, are really tired of people not letting me in in traffic because they are gabbing on the phone. People here in Baton Rouge used to always let me in, but since the cell phone thing, well, I do not think it is really intentional, but they are only thinking about MEMEME! What has happenend to this world?
