Best areas to move in BR or surrounding areas
My fiance will be attending LSU this fall. We are moving from Austin, Texas with our 2 year old son and our dog. We were curious as to where the best neighborhoods were, ones that have more families than students. We are looking to rent.

You will probably have the most luck in the Garden District and Capital Heights. There are students, but lots and lots of families as well.

I grew up in B.R. and I moved to the outskirts as an adult for my children to have better schools. I currently reside in the town of central, it has a very close knit family feel with excellent schools for my kids. It has one of everything that I need and is growing, and it is convenient to several towns around it. In comparison to B.R. the crime rate is alot lower and you can feel more comfortable about window and doors being left open or unlocked.

I guess I was aiming for places that didn't have low income housing. We will only be there for a year.

At the most $1000 a month on rent. No more than a 30 minute drive. I would love a preschool that I could work at and my son can enroll in as well...but it isn't important. We don't care if it's a house or apartment, we really just want a safe neighborhood for our family...kid and pet friendly.

That would put You close to LSU but not to close ,also there are some very good daycare centers in the downtown area, and they are growing like weeds so You should have a chance at a job with one of them. There are so nice areas off Perkins road ,that are close in near LSU.Hope You find what You need.Good luck.
