whirnot, why did you assume that those pics weren't mine? Because I normally shoot sports like this?

Well, not sure if this one counts, but I took it yesterday using KAP (Kite Aerial Photography) from a field at Northwest Way and Spruce in Redmond from about 450'. A little chilly with the wind, but of course, essential when you are using a kite to hoist the camera.

Heck ya it counts! I really like that perspective. Been thinking of getting a heli-drone for some of the sports stuff I shoot. If you can find a place to fly your kite near Smith Rock I bet you could get some incredible shots.

I figured I'd get into aerial photography the cheap way. I use an old Nikon Coolpix and don't have more than a couple hundred invested in the kite and camera rig. Quadracopters start at over a grand and will only fly for about 10 minutes on a charge. I took this shot only about 20' off the ground on Thursday and found out the camera batteries gave out shortly thereafter. I'll get about a 100 shots per session, then delete all the blurry ones and selfies of me holding the line. Fun hobby though, and cheap. I'll get back to Smith Rock the next time we have a clear day with wind.

This is the kite I use - a Levitation delta with a 9' wingspan. In a wind above 10mph it will lift a couple pounds of camera, servos and batteries.

I was looking at some pictures I took over the weekend and noticed that the clouds and sunset over the mountains hinted at a 100,000 year old eruption at Broken Top. Could it have looked something like this?
